After hard work, now we may enjoy the fruits of our labors.
The translation of the I Ching that I refer to calls this hexagram "Advance." It can feel like making leaps and bounds from the followers perspective. My teacher called it "facilitating," because that's what its like from the leader's perspective. Heaven within, Earth without, The pure directive yang energy is being steered by the soft, receptive, pure yin energy. The leader is facilitating advancements of the follower.
I wanted the music to feel like cruising down the freeway with the top down and sunglasses on, then flying up into outer space and cruising thru the milky way. I wrote the main riff chilling with my friend on the rooftop of his 17 story apartment building, gazing down on the city of Louisville, about a year before I started this project. When I came to this chapter, that riff just seemed to have the perfect feel. The lyrics are my own poetic metaphor for this idea.
lyrics
Here we sit upon our perch
Overlooking Mother Earth
Here we call upon the sky
Come facilitate my cries
We have made great leaps and bounds
Here it all comes back around
Yeah
Here we sit upon our perch
Overlooking Mother Earth
Here we call upon the sky
Come facilitate our cries
Here we call upon the Earth
Come facilitate my birth
Here we gaze upon the sky
Let's advance beyond our eyes
We have made great leaps and bounds
Here it all comes back around
Here we sit upon our perch
Overlooking Mother Earth
Here we call upon the sky
Come facilitate our cries
Here we call upon the Earth
Come facilitate our birth
Here we gaze upon the sky
Let's advance beyond our eyes
“Sauropoda” defies description; one minute it’s funneling the sound of Afrobeat through synths, the next it’s floating off into space. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 28, 2019
